Buffalo, NY is a city on the rise. Although many have expressed this sentiment over the years, we are now actually witnessing some rising action, as evidenced by the past couple of months, which has seen exciting new developments in the Queen City.
TEDxBuffalo occurred on October 15. A group of industrious Buffalonians gave talks and led discussions regarding their respective industries. The event successfully demonstrated the innovation that is happening in the city from top to bottom. The city is full of fierce young people looking to shake things up; they are determined to get Buffalo back in the spotlight and guest what? They are DOING it.
Earlier this week, an artist’s rendering of UB’s new medical school was released. The medical school will be the central hub in Buffalo’s Niagara Medical Campus, sure to revitalize (even further) downtown. The whole area is bustling with a kind of energy that hasn’t been seen there in decades.
Two weeks ago, John Paget’s short film “Buffalo: America’s Best Designed City” was shared on countless Facebook pages and Twitter feeds, making it a localized viral sensation. The short film explores Buffalo’s layout, focusing on the famous architects and city planners that helped to shape this city with their designs and dreams. Paget’s inspiring film is helping to spread the message that Buffalo is a place where dreams can flourish.
Then there’s the Buffalo Niagara Manufacturing Alliance (BNMA), the largest non-profit organization representing manufacturers in the Buffalo Niagara region.
The BNMA and its 112 member companies, works tirelessly to improve awareness of the critical issues facing manufactures today through advocacy, advice, networking, information, programs and other services. This region has a tough manufacturing heart; the BNMA helps to pump the blood.
On October 15, the BNMA had their monthly meeting, which Speed Global Services is proud to have been a part of. The guest speaker was Carl Paladino, local businessman and Buffalo School Board member. Paladino is best known as a risk-taker, invested developer and champion of strategic ideas and plans that bring new life to the city and region.
Buffalo is rapidly changing before our very eyes. It is a very exciting time to be living here and to feel that…well…thriving. Thanks to TEDxBuffalo, the Niagara Medical Campus, artists like John Paget and the BNMA, the Queen City has a larger global presence.
