The demand for truck drivers these days has only been increasing, we all know that. But it is not often you see that much outside support for trying to improve the numbers of truck drivers. Webasto Thermo and Comfort does understand as they implement a means of training and educating new people interested in truck driving on ways they can keep the truck impact on the environment low-key.
The majority of the work for Webasto will actually be around fuel efficiency and reach around 1,000 new truck drivers each year if things go well, since they are working with the United States Truck Driving Training Schools. The plan is to produce a couple of curriculums that will focus around teaching new truck drivers how they can best limit their impact on the environment and get better mileage. One of those curriculums include the idle reduction classes, which will teach the technology that can be utilized for handling idling and making sure they aren’t idling all the time.
The only problem is, this change isn’t going to draw in new truckers or people interested. It might sway some people on the fence though and concerned that they would be burning too much gas, especially with the gas prices lately. But other than the talk about the two companies working together, and offering better education to new drivers it’s doing nothing to actually handle the truck driver shortage.
But with plans set in motion for Webasto to create even more options and educational plans for students, maybe they will eventually end up making it easier for people to become truck drivers while still also getting that education they need. Until then, we just won’t know if any of these changes will impact the trucker shortages.
